Charmed by Charleston.

I finally checked off a place on my "Just Go" travel list: Charleston, South Carolina.

Ben and I decided to spend this Thanksgiving away and on our own. Trust me, I know what you're thinking. "Wouldn't you want to be around family?" "Don't you want a home-cooked Turkey Day meal?" Yes and yes. I heard it all from everyone I told we were leaving, but after 23 years of Thanksgivings spent the same way, it was just time for something different for the 24th. Charleston had been on our list for a while as a place to visit, we had the time off of work, so we went for it.

Our Thanksgiving was spent at Carolina Ale House, AKA our Thanksgiving was spent at a sports bar and restaurant. I know, I can't believe it either but, don't knock it til ya try it. Their turkey plate was pretty impressive, and more than either of us could finish. We chowed down, while watching football, and facing the inevitable question from our waitress: "Y'all have family in town?" "Nope. Just trying something different for Thanksgiving."

Charleston goes down as one of the cutest cities that we've been to. Blame the old town feel, the bourbon waffles at Tricera Coffee, or our visit to Rainbow Row. Whatever it was, it's safe to say I fell for the Charleston charm. Hard.

#norAgrets, we definitely ate our way through this city. Restaurants we loved:
Virginia's On King
Tricera Coffee - get the bourbon & prosciutto waffles
Glazed Gourmet Doughnuts - glazed maple bacon allll theee wayyy
Callie's Hot Little Biscuit
Basil - this place was recommended multiple times to us from a few Charlestonians, and was well worth it for some chicken pad thai

Still dreaming about these #NOMazing

Rainbow Row - SO pretty

Count how many hats you see - he's made up entirely of them.
I (not so patiently) waited three days for this moment and it was hard to snap this picture without taking a bite first. The shop was closed Wednesday night when we arrived in Charleston through Friday. Saturday morning I was on a mission before we headed home to get my gourmet donut fix. It was a (literal) sweet victory when I ordered this maple bacon donut from Glazed Gourmet Doughnuts. THE. BEST.
